Healthier Employees, Healthier Profits.
Fitness: Help your small business to grow by maintaining employee health
If you’re a small, or large, business then there is considerable cause to believe that maintaining a healthy workforce could be the key to maintaining healthy profits. In essence the claim is founded on the basis that healthier and fitter people have higher levels of concentration, improved mental capacity and are the happiest and most comfortable employees.
Or so argues Rob Basso, founder and CEO of Advantage Payroll Services. An article I read recently saw him claim that healthy people have ‘sharper minds’ and that he believes that his business’ success is down to the fact he has strived to maintain a health workforce.
And I must say, personally, that I somewhat agree with him. I don’t want to be misunderstood, however, and people think I’m calling all unhealthy and overweight people stupid, lazy and useless. That’s not true. But there is fact in his claims that healthier people have sharper minds.
I’m a fairly healthy person: I gym regularly and eat well. When I eat rubbish I’m sluggish and marginally slower mentally. If you want your employees to be at their best, then it makes sense to make sure they’re physically at their best too.
The same goes if you’re working from home. Try a healthy lifestyle and see if it makes a difference.I’m not saying it will make a difference, I’m just saying it might make a difference. Not just at work, but research has showed that healthier people also tend to be happier people.
So, really, what do you have to lose apart from excess weight?
There are a few things you can do to make sure employees maintain healthy lifestyles:
- Provide healthy snacks, such as carrot sticks, etc.
- Provide easy access to drinking water.
- Incentivise employees to exercise and eat healthily
